HUMAN & CO
A brand built around what matters most. Being human.
For more than 40 years, Domestic Violence Service Management NSW has supported people experiencing domestic and family violence. But the organisation had evolved far beyond what its name and identity conveyed. We worked closely with their team to uncover what made them different, define a stronger strategic position, and create Human & Co, a new brand built to be soft when it matters, strong when it counts, and unmistakably human throughout.
The Challenge
DVSM was doing important, complex work, but its brand wasn’t doing it justice. The name was clinical, not clearly articulating the breadth of services and support it offered, easily confused and gave little sense of the warmth, courage or humanity behind the organisation.
The challenge was bigger than finding a new name or creating a new logo. We needed to build a brand that could feel safe and reassuring to someone seeking support, while having the confidence to challenge government, influence culture and advocate for systemic change.
And importantly, it needed to honour where the organisation had come from while giving it room to grow.
Our Approach
We started by listening. Through research, surveys, workshops and conversations across the organisation, a clear tension emerged: this was a team capable of incredible softness and incredible strength.
That became the foundation of the brand.
Human & Co puts humanity front and centre, while the ‘& Co’ speaks to the collective effort required to create change; clients, frontline teams, communities, partners, advocates and all of us.
The visual identity brings that thinking to life through an expressive ampersand, a bold yet warm colour palette and The Thread, a fluid graphic device inspired by the logo that wraps, connects, highlights and holds. Together, these elements create an identity capable of moving between quiet moments of support and messages that demand attention.
